Policeman killed in Assar road accident

A policeman died after a car he was driving plunged into several hundred-deep gorges on Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway.

Police sources said a car bearing registration number JK06-8742 on its way to Doda from Jammu skidded off the road and fell into several hundred-feet-deep gorges in the Assar area of Doda on Batote-Doda-Highway late Sunday evening.

They said on getting information a police team and local volunteers reached the spot and tried their best to locate the occupant of the car. However, search operation was called off due to darkness in the deep gorge on Sunday night.

On Monday morning a search operation to locate the missing occupant of the car was re-launched in a several hundred-foot-deep gorge jointly by the Police, SDRF, and local volunteers and the body of the deceased was retrieved.

Police identified the deceased as Head Constable Ram Raj, ( 47) son of Amar Chand resident of village Paryote, Doda.

They said the deceased head constable was posted in Jammu and was heading to his native place in Paryote, Doda when this accident happened late Sunday evening.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law for further investigations.
