Forest Department distributes Grafted Walnut Saplings among locals in South Kashmir for livelihood generation

Today, Forest Department South Forest Circle in collaboration with Rahim Greens, Kashmir distributed grafted walnut saplings among general public and Tribal community members in Bijbehara, South Circle. The saplings have been donated by Rafiq Ahmad Khan, a famous Philanthropist of Kashmir for the purpose of livelihood generation.

Irfan Ali Shah, Conservator of Forests thanked the organization for this gesture. The CoF said that Forest Department is aiming to develop modern Nurseries for raising of various species of plants including fruit bearing plants for plantation in Forest areas and also outside Forests. About 250 good quality grafted walnut saplings have been distributed among 60 beneficiaries free of cost during a function organized by Forest Department in Bijbehara. The programme was attended by Forest officials including DFO Lidder Forest Division Sheikh Mehraj,various Van Mitras, Tribal people and locals who are associated with the production of walnut fruits.
