Veteran Filmmaker Prayag Raj Passes Away, Industry Mourns Loss

The sudden demise of esteemed screenplay writer-director Prayag Raj has sent shockwaves through the entire film industry. He passed away on Saturday at his Mumbai residence. Following the news, numerous celebrities, from Amitabh Bachchan to Anil Kapoor, took to their social media platforms to offer their condolences.

Anil Kapoor, who collaborated with Prayag Raj on the film “Hifazat,” expressed his sorrow on Sunday through an Instagram story, saying, “I’m truly saddened by the loss of the late Prayag Raj. Working with him on Hifazat was a privilege. May his soul rest in peace.” He also shared a still from the sets of “Hifazat.”

Amitabh Bachchan, reflecting on Prayag Raj’s passing, shared the news on his blog, stating, “last evening we have lost another pillar of our great Film Industry… Prayag Raj passed away at 4 pm yesterday.” The actor and Prayag Raj collaborated on films like “Amar Akbar Anthony,” “Naseeb,” and “Coolie.”

Shabana Azmi, co-star in “Amar Akbar Anthony,” also expressed her condolences, writing, “Sorry to hear about the passing away of writer-director Prayag Raj.”

Prayag Raj’s contributions spanned across luminaries like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and others. He was the creative force behind screenplays for films such as “Dharamveer,” “Ponga Pandit,” “Coolie,” “Mard,” “Desh Premee,” “Naseeb,” “Suhaag,” “Parvarish,” “Amar Akbar Anthony,” “Bhai Ho To Aisa,” and “Hifazat,” among others.
