Neelkanth Ganjoo murder case: After being shot and killed by terrorists over 33 years prior, retired judge Neelkanth Ganjoo’s murderer wanted assistance from the public to identify the “larger criminal conspiracy” responsible.
Maqbool Bhat, the founder of the JKLF, was given the death penalty by Justice Neelkanth Ganjoo in the 1968 case of the murder of CID inspector Amar Chand and a civilian. In 1982, the Supreme Court upheld this judgement. On February 11, 1984, Maqbool Bhat was later hanged in Tihar Jail for the kidnapping and murder of Indian diplomat Ravinder Mhatre in London.
Ganjoo’s murder in 1989 was a part of a string of targeted assassinations by Islamic terrorists supported by Pakistan, which pushed Kashmiri Pandits to escape for their safety and sparked the worst exodus in the history of independent India.
The representative claimed that each of these individuals’ identities would be secured and kept private, and that any useful information would also be appropriately compensated. For more information regarding this murder case, the public is urged to call (889) 900-4976 or email sspsia-kmr@jkpolice.gov.in, the official added.
