Srinagar, Sep 05: Pulwama Police on Thursday said they achieved a significant success in their fight against terrorism by arresting a terrorist associate during a routine checkpoint at Karimabad crossing.

“The individual, identified as Arsalan Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh from Karimabad, was taken into custody after a search revealed he was carrying a hand grenad,” said a police spokesperson in a statement issued to the News Vibes of India.

He said, authorities believe that Sheikh intended to attack the police checkpoint with the grenade, posing a serious threat to the safety of security personnel and civilians. However, the swift action of the police prevented the attack and ensured public safety.

“A case has been registered against Sheikh under FIR No. 182/2024 at Pulwama Police Station, with charges under the Explosives Act and sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA),” he said adding Investigations are ongoing to uncover potential connections to other terrorist activities in the region.
