Imdad Saqi condemns derogatory depiction of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini

In a recent development, Senior Journalist and Social Activist Imdad Saqi has voiced his strong condemnation of the disrespectful portrayal of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini in a textbook published by NCERT.

Saqi, known for his unwavering commitment to social justice and religious harmony, has expressed deep concern over the alarming trend of weaponizing education for communal agendas.

“The depiction of Ayatollah Imam Khomeini in such a derogatory manner is not only offensive but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes,” Saqi stated in a press release.

Highlighting the dangers of communalization in education, Saqi emphasized that such actions only serve to deepen existing divides in society.

“Education should be a tool for enlightenment, not for spreading hatred and misinformation,” he added.

Saqi urged NCERT to take swift action to rectify the situation by removing the offensive content from the textbooks and issuing a public apology. He emphasized that failure to do so would not only be a disservice to the principles of education but also contribute to the further polarization of society.

In a firm stance against the perpetrators of such defamation, Saqi announced his intention to pursue legal action against the publisher and author responsible for the offensive content.

“We cannot allow for the defamation of revered figures to go unchecked,” Saqi affirmed, underscoring the importance of accountability in the dissemination of information.

Ayatollah Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini (17 May 1900 or 24 September 1902[a] – 3 June 1989) was an Iranian Islamic revolutionary, politician, and religious leader who served as the first supreme leader of Iran from 1979 until his death in 1989. He was the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the leader of the Iranian Revolution, which overthrew Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and ended the Iranian monarchy.

Born in Khomeyn, in what is now Iran’s Markazi province, his father was murdered in 1903 when Khomeini was two years old. He began studying the Quran and Arabic from a young age and was assisted in his religious studies by his relatives, including his mother’s cousin and older brother. Khomeini was a high ranking cleric in Twelver Shi’ism, an ayatollah, a marja, a Mujtahid or faqīh (an expert in sharia), and author of more than 40 books. His opposition to the White Revolution resulted in his state-sponsored expulsion to Bursa in 1964. Nearly a year later, he moved to Najaf, where speeches he gave outlining his religiopolitical theory of Guardianship of the Jurist were complied into Islamic Government.
