To promote cleanliness of villages with the participation of community members, PRIs and all other stakeholders a “Sarpanch Samvaad” on Swachhata was organised by Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K today.
Director, Rural Sanitation, J&K Charandeep Singh, interacted with the Sarpanches. The Samvaad was attended by Sarpanches of Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua & Rajouri district. The Block Development officers of the respective Panchayats also attended the Samvaad on Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen. The Samvaad started with the sharing of video on Swachhta hi Seva followed by interaction with the Sarpanches.
The Director, Rural Sanitation, while interacting with Sarpanches, had a detailed discussion on various verticals of Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen, Solid Waste Management, Grey water Management, Black Water Management, Installation of Bio Gas Plants, Capacity Building of various stake holders to maintain cleanliness in the Blocks, Panchayats & villages. He stated that we all have to understand the relevance of the scheme and see our role viz-a-viz its accomplishment and also stressed upon doing the team work with the PRIs for maintaining the cleanliness of the villages.
The Director further explained in detail that how a village is declared as ODF Plus and revealed that more than 4000 villages have already been declared as ODF Plus in the UT. He emphasized that on one hand we need to focus on behavioral change of the people regarding cleanliness at community level and individual level and on the other hand lay stress on construction of assets and infrastructure, technical knowledge, human resource deployment.
Speaking on the occasion, Raman Wazir, Sarpanch Panchayat Dhok Waziran, Block Nagrota, District Jammu, highlighted various achievements regarding removal of legacy waste, door to door waste collection and active participation of the people in Solid Waste Management. He assured that the Panchayat will be soon declared as Model Panchayat.
Geeta Devi, Sarpanch Panchayat Pallanwalla, Block Khour, District Jammu emphasized on the efforts being made in her panchayat on SBM-G via Gram Sabha debates on SBM, provision of dustbins, door to door waste collection, segregation of waste, model of soakpits, Compost pits and Magic Pits etc. She highlighted the participation of community in making the panchayat clean.
Prem Lata, Sarpanch Panchayat Agar Jitto, Block Katra, District Reasi spoke about the door to door waste collection and segregation sheds and dustbins and Anil Sharma, Sarpanch Panchayat Bhambla, Block Pouni, District Reasi spoke about awareness regarding door to door waste management , CSCs, Compost pits and soakpits. He appreciated the efforts being made by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, J&K in ensuring cleanliness in villages.
Madhu Sharma, Sarpanch, Panchayat Amala, Block Barnoti, District Kathua spoke about door to door waste collection and Rakesh Gupta, Sarpanch Panchayat Bani Block Bani, District Kathua discussed about the door to door collection model in their respective Panchayat.
Akis Naseer, Sarpanch Panchayat Jamola Lower Block Budhal Old, District Rajouri shared his model for door to door waste collection and appreciated the support from the district Administration and Smt. Jagmohan Kour, Sarpanch Panchayat Sangpur Narrian west Block Doongi, District Rajouri spoke about Mahila Sabhas, Waste to wealth, Plastic Waste Management, cotton Bags, Segregation sheds etc.
Pritpal Singh, Sarpanch Panchayat upper rehmbal Chopershop Block Udhampur, District Udhampur discussed about the self sustained model of waste collection and segregation sheds and Makhan Singh Manhas, Sarpanch Panchayat Sira-A Block Latti, District Udhampur spoke about the construction of CSCs, IEC & baal sabhas in the schools for awareness regarding sanitation.
Further the Director, Rural Sanitation interacted with the Sarpanches and discussed on various proposals of the Department in detail and emphasized that the Solid Waste Management is the top priority of the Government now a days and also appreciated the efforts being done by various Sarpanches towards the cleanliness and assured that the department will extend its full cooperation for making the arrangements of Solid Waste Management, Liquid Waste Management etc.
