The sequel to SS Rajamouli’s period epic RRR, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles, is in the works, confirmed by Vijayendra Prasad, the screenwriter of the Oscar-winning film and Rajamouli’s father. Vijayendra Prasad further confirmed the return of both Telugu superstars, Ram Charan and Jr NTR, for the sequel. However, it is anticipated that Part 2 will explore a different storyline, possibly focusing on another chapter from the pre-Independence era of the Telugu states.

During an interview with a Telugu channel, Vijayendra revealed, “We are planning to create a sequel to RRR with Ram Charan and NTR. The movie will be directed either by SS Rajamouli or someone else under his guidance.”

Vijayendra also hinted at the possibility that Rajamouli might not direct the sequel of RRR. Nevertheless, he will remain involved in the project, as someone “under his guidance” will take charge of directing the film if Rajamouli decides not to do so.

Rajamouli’s upcoming projects include directing a film tentatively titled SSMB 29, featuring Mahesh Babu in an adventure film reminiscent of Indiana Jones. Following that, he is expected to focus on his ambitious interpretation of the Mahabharata, which will be released as a 10-part franchise. These commitments may limit his availability to direct the sequel of RRR. Nevertheless, with his involvement in the project and Vijayendra Prasad handling the screenplay, the sequel holds promise, especially with the return of Ram Charan and Jr NTR to recreate the magic they brought to the first part.

Regarding the global success of RRR, the Telugu film was dubbed in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam. It also featured Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. The film’s song “Naatu Naatu,” composed by MM Keeravani, achieved worldwide popularity, earning India its first-ever Golden Globe and Academy Award in the Best Original Song category.
