Following in the footsteps of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, actor Ranveer Singh is set to take on the iconic role of Don in the upcoming third installment of the popular franchise. Director Farhan Akhtar recently introduced Ranveer as the new Don through a special announcement video, though some fans expressed disappointment with the casting choice.

In an interview director Farhan Akhtar explained that his collaboration with SRK ended on amicable terms. He stated, “I’m not in the position of replacing anybody. These are things that we discussed over the years. I wanted to take a certain direction with the story, but somehow we just couldn’t find common ground. We just parted mutually knowing that it’s probably for the best. So that’s where it is,” Akhtar told Variety.

Farhan also expressed his enthusiasm for working with Ranveer Singh in the third installment, emphasizing Ranveer’s high energy and readiness for the role. He stated, “I’m really excited Ranveer’s on board. He’s so charged and so ready to go. It’s a big film, just purely from the point of view of an actor, it’s a big thing to do, and we’re really excited to have him on board. His energy is energizing us, so to speak.”

In the announcement teaser, Ranveer is shown seated in a building with his back to the camera. He lights a cigarette, introduces himself as Don, and then turns to face the camera. He sports a dapper look with a leather jacket, matching pants, leather boots, and sunglasses.

The Don series has always been known for its compelling narratives, thrilling action sequences, and unforgettable moments. The original Don, released in 2006, starred Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Boman Irani in prominent roles. It won the Best Asian Film award at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival. The sequel, Don 2, released in 2011, was also a commercial success.

Hrithik Roshan made a special appearance in Don 2.

Farhan’s directorial venture was a remake of the 1978 film “Don,” where Amitabh Bachchan played the lead role.
