Akshay Kumar has decided to postpone the release of the first trailer for his highly anticipated film, OMG 2. He expressed deep sadness upon hearing about the passing of Nitin Desai and announced that the trailer launch would be delayed as a mark of respect for Nitin. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 11.
In a Wednesday afternoon tweet, Akshay wrote, “I am incredibly saddened to learn about Nitin Desai’s demise. He was a prominent figure in production design and a significant part of our cinema fraternity. He worked on numerous of my films… this loss is immeasurable. As a mark of respect, we will not be releasing the OMG 2 trailer today. Instead, it will be launched tomorrow at 11 am. Om Shanti.”
The late Nitin Desai, renowned for creating sets for blockbuster movies like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Lagaan, is said to have passed away by suicide, according to Mumbai Police. He was discovered at his studio in Mumbai.
Regarding OMG 2, it serves as a sequel to Umesh Shukla’s 2012 film OMG, where Akshay Kumar portrayed the role of Hindu God Krishna, and Paresh Rawal played a businessman. Directed by Amit Rai, the sequel stars Pankaj Tripathi as a Shiva devotee, with Yami Gautam portraying the character of a lawyer. Notably, the film faces a significant box office clash with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, as both movies are set to hit theaters on the same day.
Initial promotional materials, including teasers and posters, depicted Akshay as Lord Shiva. However, his character has reportedly been altered to that of the Messenger of God, a “doot”.
In recent days, there were rumors circulating about OMG 2 encountering issues with the Central Board of Film Certification, leading to speculations about a potential release date delay. However, these rumors were put to rest when Ajit Andhare, COO at the distribution house Viacom 18 Studios, confirmed that the film had been cleared by the censors and would indeed release on the pre-announced date.
