Invoking former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on the recent clashes along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that India needs to have better relationships with China.
Abdullah also maintained that it was China’s responsibility to form good relations with India and stop the faceoff on borders.
“It is unfortunate that we are not able to maintain good relations with our neighbours. Everyone knows about our relations with Pakistan but even with China we are not able to establish good relations,” said the former chief minister.
Abdullah said that former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had said that friends can be changed but neighbours can’t be changed.
“We can’t change our neighbours but can have better relations with them. It’s also China’s responsibility to form good relations with us and stop this faceoff on borders,” said Abdullah.
Indian and Chinese troops clashed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9 and the face-off resulted in “minor injuries to a few personnel from both sides”, the Indian Army said on Monday.
