Mir appealed women to use power of their vote, contribute to democratic process with great enthusiasm. Empowerment of women is the main agenda and commitment of the Congress Party, it (Congress) will continue to work harder for the redressal of their grievances, besides their 33% reservation in political, administrative and other fields. Women are the worst hit by the inflation and economic crisis. Congress Party is committed to ensure justice and equal treatment to women, who play a key role in the overall development of the society. The Party’s struggle to ensure 33% women reservation shall continue.
The just announced assembly elections is the opportunity for the women to contribute to democratic process and elect right persons as public representatives.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir made these comments while addressing a largely attended women leader’s convention in the Verinag area of South Kashmir.
The convention was presided over by the All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba, who termed the women a big source of relief and symbol of sacrifices.
Addressing the convention, Ghulam Ahmd Mir hailed the Congress Party’s struggle for 33% reservation to women in every field especially political, administrative and many other fields and appreciated the tireless efforts of CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who has made great contributions with respect to seeking 33% women reservation and their equal treatment. Women are the big source of encouragement to society, so there is a lot to be done to ensure that they get everything they deserve at par with the men, Mir said
Mir urged the Centre Govt to ensure 33% women reservation in both letter and spirit rather than making tall claims, adding that price hike on essentials directly impacts the women, so the inflation has to be brought under control, which will ensure a relief and economic upliftment of the women.
Taking the opportunity of the convention, Mir said the just announced Assembly Elections is the opportunity for the women to play their role in the democratic process and choose the right persons as representative, with the ability to represent the public in the upcoming Legislature and at other appropriate forums. Mir appealed to the women “who comprise 50% of the population” to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise to ensure that J&K gets its elected Govt.
The AICC General Secretary also urged the women to use the power of their vote and contribute to democratic process with great enthusiasm in the fast approaching assembly elections.
On this occasion, Mir urged the women leader’s convention to rise to the occasion and work harder to ensure coercion free society and contain the domestic violation unleashed against women. He said we receive reports of violation against women from different parts of the country, day in and day out, it is the duty of the Govt of the day to check rising incidents of violence against them (Women) and ensure them a free society.
Speaking on the occasion All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba expressed great satisfaction over the conduct of women leader’s convention and vowed to work harder to ensure that women in the country get due respect and share in terms of their development especially 33% reservation in Govt departments and political field, for which Congress Party is fighting with great vigor and vitality. She further said that women are the source of respite to society, so the society should also give equal rights and respect to women, Lamba asserted.
Senior Mahila Congress Leaders including Mahila Vice President Bhanu Mahajan and various prominent Mahila leaders addressed the convention.
