The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is all set to conduct the second launch of 2024 with the INSAT-3DS satellite ready to take off on 17 February.
INSAT-3DS satellite is a follow-on mission of a Third Generation Meteorological Satellite to be operated from the geostationary orbit. The satellite is an exclusive mission designed for enhanced meteorological observations and monitoring of land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasting and disaster warning.
The newest addition to India’s meteorological satellites will be launched aboard the mighty Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) with an indigenous cryo stage to space.
The spacecraft is scheduled to take off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 5:35 pm IST.
This will be the seventh operational flight of GSLV with an indigenous Cryogenic stage. Isro said that the configuration of GSLV-F14 Payload Fairing is a 4 meter diameter Ogive version.
The spacecraft will be deployed by GSLV in a geostationary transfer orbit, after which engineers will perform a series of orbit-raising manoeuvres to finally put the spacecraft into a geostationary orbit.
