IMD Forecasts Moderate Rainfall for Delhi, Thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that certain parts of Delhi would experience moderate rainfall on Thursday. The forecast also indicates that the national capital can expect moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on both Friday and Saturday.

The weather outlook mentioned that the sky would mostly remain cloudy on Thursday.

Kuldeep Srivastava, the scientist and head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre at IMD, explained that the monsoon trough is moving closer to Delhi, resulting in anticipated rain activity for the next two or three days. Light rain is expected during Thursday morning, followed by moderate rain or thundershowers later in the day. The shift in monsoon trough is likely to bring easterly winds and increased moisture content.

Due to the forecasted heavy rainfall, minor traffic disruptions and an increased chance of accidents are expected on roads. There might also be water accumulation in low-lying areas and on roads.

The IMD advises checking for traffic congestion and following any issued traffic advisories before traveling. It suggests avoiding areas that frequently face waterlogging issues.

The forecast indicates that Delhi can expect moderate rainfall until August 6, with a cloudy sky expected until August 8.

On Thursday, the maximum temperature is likely to be 35 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded was 36.2 degrees Celsius, and the minimum was 27.9 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity ranged between 64% and 80% on Wednesday.

Recent rainfall data showed moderate precipitation in areas such as Akshardham, New Ashok Nagar, Mayur Vihar, with Pitampura receiving 2mm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Yamuna river’s water level in Delhi dropped below the warning mark of 204.5 meters on Wednesday, the first time since it breached the mark on July 9 due to heavy rainfall in the national capital and upper catchment regions.
