Under the Green India Mission (GIM),Forest Division Shopian today organised a grand distribution function at Nagwan, Keller which was presided by Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar.
Key Initiatives taken under the initiative included distribution of Smokeless stoves to reduce indoor air pollution and improve health and solar lanterns to provide reliable and renewable energy to more than 30 families.
Besides, under the theme of Har Goan Haryali, the department distributed saplings and seed balls also for greening and afforestation of the protected forest area. The Deputy Commissioner along with ADC initiated the plantation drive, which focused on encouraging reforestation and biodiversity conservation.
The Green India Mission focuses on promoting sustainable livelihoods, especially in rural areas, by providing access to clean energy and resources. In view of the Children Day celebrations, the department also organised the Stationery distribution function for supporting education by distributing stationery among over 60 children.
Shahid Saleem highlights the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation through collaborating in forest protection and re- forestation efforts. By engaging local communities, the Green India Mission aims to create a sustainable and environmentally conscious society, he said.
DDC member, DFO Shopian also spoke on the occasion and solicited the cooperation of local communities for upkeep our shared environmental resources including forests, water bodies, etc.
