The Election Commission (EC) has made extensive arrangements for the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), including deploying two Central Observers for each of the five Parliamentary constituencies. Additionally, Micro Observers will be stationed at all 11,629 Polling Stations across the UT to ensure fair and transparent voting processes and counting of votes.
To address potential challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, an emergency plan has been devised to airlift personnel and equipment to Polling Stations in approximately a dozen areas across J&K.
According to official sources, the Central Observers, comprising senior officers, will closely monitor their respective Parliamentary constituencies to ensure the elections are conducted without irregularities. They will issue directives to the district administration as necessary. Each constituency will have one General Observer and one Expenditure Observer.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of J&K, PK Pole, will oversee the deployment of Micro Observers at all Polling Stations. These Micro Observers will undergo training in advance to effectively fulfill their duties.
On the day of counting, scheduled for June 4, Micro Observers will also be present at all counting stations to oversee the process and address any concerns raised by candidates or their representatives.
Additionally, the Election Authority has identified nearly a dozen areas where Polling Stations may require airlifting of personnel and equipment due to adverse weather conditions. These areas include remote regions such as Marwah, Warwan, and Dachchan in Kishtwar, as well as Karnah and Keran in Kupwara district.
In the event of adverse weather conditions and road closures, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will be sought for airlifting assistance. An emergency plan has been developed to address such scenarios, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the electoral process.
The Lok Sabha elections in J&K will be conducted in multiple phases, with polling scheduled for different constituencies on various dates. The Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituency will go to polls first on April 19, followed by Jammu-Reasi on April 26, Anantnag-Poonch-Rajouri on May 7, Srinagar on May 13, and Baramulla on May 20.
