Director School Education Kashmir, Tasaduq Hussain Mir, stated on Wednesday that any decision to extend the summer vacation for schools would hinge on advisories from the Meteorological Department (MeT). Speaking to reporters during an event at Kothi Bagh Higher Secondary School, Mir emphasized that the department was closely monitoring ground conditions and prevailing weather in Kashmir. “We will remain in communication with the weather department and will decide on extending the summer vacation if such an advisory is issued,” he explained. Currently, all government and privately recognized schools up to class 12th in Kashmir are closed for summer vacations, which began on July 8 and are scheduled to conclude on July 17.
Regarding complaints against private schools for unjustified tuition fee hikes, Mir disclosed that these issues have been brought to the attention of the Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC). “The FFRC recently convened a meeting and finalized the minutes, which I have signed. These minutes will be shared with the Chairman of FFRC,” he added. Mir highlighted that the FFRC, as the regulatory body for private schools, has received numerous complaints against certain institutions. “Action will be taken against such schools. Minor violations will incur fines, while major violations may lead to the derecognition of the private school,” Mir informed reporters.
Previously, the FFRC had instructed private schools to submit their documents for the fixation and regulation of school fees. Warning schools of potential consequences for non-compliance, the FFRC mandated that all required documents must reach their office by July 25, 2024.
