India vs Australia is arguably the biggest rivalry in world cricket. India vs Pakistan is not because they do not play each other very often and more often than not, India have dominated Pakistan.
Pakistan are not the same team they used to be in the 1990s and early 2000s. Besides, India have not played a Test match against Pakistan since 2007. So that leaves India and Australia as the most fierce Test rivals in recent times. Every series of Test matches between these two teams has been adrenaline-fuelled, nail-biting, energy-sapping and sometimes controversial.Australia are coming to Indian shores to play Test cricket after 6 years. In 2017, India eventually went on to win that series, but not before the Aussies had won by a massive 333-run margin in Pune and a dogfight in Bengaluru which was mired by the infamous DRS incident involving Steve Smith. Virat Kohli was furious in the post-match press conference but the Indian victory set the stage for a dramatic resurgence.
After a tame draw in Ranchi, India went to the final Test in Dharamsala without Virat Kohli who had a poor series. Kohli was in sensational form in India’s extended home season of Test matches but by the time Australia came visiting, the then India captain was possibly drained and exhausted, especially after his heroics against England.
