Srinagar April 11: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) protested against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, claiming it is unacceptable and harmful to Muslims. PDP leader Mohammad Iqbal Trumboo stated that the party would take its opposition to the streets to show the Supreme Court and the Central government that the Act does not meet the approval of the Muslim community.

Another PDP leader, Abdul Qayoom, pointed out that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was passed by parliament without proper discussions. He criticized the act, saying it has led to the loss of lands, mosques, and graveyards for the community, and emphasized that Kashmiris support every Muslim in the nation.

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti also criticized Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the BJP for their actions regarding the Waqf Amendment Act. She accused the BJP of attacking Muslims and condemned the government’s behavior in the assembly as shameful.

President Droupadi Murmu approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was passed during the budget session. The bill aims to enhance the management of waqf properties, empower stakeholders, and improve the processes related to surveys and registrations.
