BJP is harming democracy, Sonia Gandhi lashes at Center Government.

The PM Modi-led government at the Center has systematically dismantled all the three pillars of the country’s democracy. Sonia also referred to the recent incidents in Parliament. She told the government’s strategy to disrupt the sessions.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government in an editorial written for an English Newspaper.

In an article titled ‘Forced silencing cannot solve India’s problems’, she said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements tend to ignore or divert attention from the most important issues of the day.

Destroyed all the pillars of democracy

She also said that the PM Modi-led government at the Center has systematically dismantled all the three pillars of the country’s democracy. Sonia also referred to the recent incidents in Parliament. She told the government’s strategy to disrupt the sessions. Said, the opposition was prevented from raising issues like unemployment, inflation, budget, Adani scam and social division.

Government resorting to unique measures

Sonia Gandhi also spoke on Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP and parts of his speech being expunged from parliamentary records. He said that the central government has to resort to unique measures to counter a strong opposition.

Significantly, Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a Surat court for his remarks regarding the Modi surname. After which he was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP. Also, he was sentenced to two years in jail in a defamation case against him.

Distracted from the budget

Sonia Gandhi alleged that in order to pass the Union Budget 2023, she raised many such issues to divert the attention of the people, in which an expenditure of about Rs 45 lakh crore was envisaged. As a result, a budget of Rs 45 lakh crore of people’s money was passed without any debate.

Finance minister also attacked

She further said that when the Finance Bill was passed through the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister was busy inaugurating projects in his constituency with wide media coverage. Sonia also criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She said that the Finance Minister did not even mention unemployment or inflation in his budget speech. It is as if these problems do not exist.

Misuse of central agencies

Sonia Gandhi also talked about the allegation made by the opposition that ‘the government is misusing the central investigative agencies’. Said that more than 95 per cent political cases have been registered only against opposition parties. At the same time, all the allegations against those who joined BJP suddenly disappeared. And the government has taken away the freedom of the media by threatening them.

Last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sent summons to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi several times in the National Herald case. The Congress party held a nationwide protest against the summons, alleging that the government was misusing central investigative agencies. And this March, 14 opposition parties moved the Supreme Court alleging misuse of central investigative agencies like the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to implicate their leaders.

Government engaged in humiliating the judiciary

The UPA chairperson said that the government is trying to humiliate the judiciary. He questioned the language of Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. Sonia wrote that the Prime Minister remains silent on the hate statements of BJP and RSS leaders. Similarly, do not speak the truth even on the issue of border dispute with China. Sonia has written that the coming days are very important. The Congress party will make every effort to protect the Constitution of India by joining hands with like-minded parties.
