The three-day historic Agar Jitto Mela also known as ‘Guni Mela’ held every year in remembrance of Dogra folk hero Baba Jitto Mal commenced today amid religious fervour and gaiety.
District Development Commissioner Reasi, Babila Rakwal inaugurated the fest.
After paying floral tribute to Baba Jitto and complimenting people of the area, especially pilgrims from across the country, the DDC said that such types of festivals provide an opportunity for all to witness the rich culture and heritage of a region, which further help in strengthening the bond of brotherhood and communal harmony.
Interacting with the participants, the DDC said that the yearly event plays a pivotal role in promotion of local culture and heritage.
A colorful cultural programme was also organised on the inaugural day in which different educational instructions and local artists presented folk dances and skits depicting the life of Baba Jitto.
Besides, stalls by different departments like agriculture, health department, horticulture, Handloom were set up to educate people about various schemes and display their products.
Meanwhile, DDC alongwith other dignitaries took a round of departmental stalls and inspected the facilities for devotees.
