India’s 50m Rifle 3Ps men’s team of Aishwary Tomar, Swapnil Kusale and Akhil Sheoran clinched the gold medal in the team event with a new world record at the ongoing Asian Games on Friday. This is India’s 15th medal and 7th gold in shooting for India at the Asian Games 2023.
India achieved a remarkable score of 1769, surpassing the USA’s previous record set in Peru last year by eight points. China secured the silver medal with a score of 1763, while the Republic of Korea earned the bronze with a score of 1748.
Swapnil and Aishwary both notched up identical scores of 591 in the qualification event, securing the top two spots and earning their places in the upcoming final scheduled for later in the day. Notably, their stellar performances also established new records for the qualification stage in both the Asian Games and Asian shooting records.
Unfortunately, despite his impressive fifth-place finish in the individual rankings, Akhil was unable to qualify for the final due to the restriction allowing only two shooters from each country to participate in the event.
