Anjuman Auqaf expresses disappointment over Jama Masjid’s closure

The historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar has been shut down ahead of the Shab-e-Qadr because authorities have prohibited nigh-long prayers in the Masjid, Anjuman Auqaf apprised on April 6 evening.

In a statement issued to Gulistan News, Anjuman Auqaf said that following Asr prayers, the govt locked the gates of Jamia Masjid and the cops asked people to vacate the mosque.

 

The statement reads that the Auqaf was informed that the observance of Taraweeh or Shab Khani on the auspicious occasion of Shab-e-Qadr will not be permitted at the Jamia Masjid.

 

Meanwhile, it said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was again placed under house arrest earlier this afternoon.

Auqaf expressed disappointment over the decision of the authorities and strongly condemned this repressive measure.
