AKAM: ADDC Pulwama kick-starts Sports Festival for Tribal Community at Sangerwani

The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Pulwama, Dr. Sheikh Abdul Aziz today inaugurated the Sports Festival for Tribal Community under the banner of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” (AKAM) at Sports Stadium Bag-e-Sangerwani Keller, Pulwama.

On the occasion, ADDC threw light on the importance of sports and said that the games are necessary for physical and mental development of everybody particularly for youth.

The Sports Festival received overwhelming response from the locals who were dressed up in traditional dress.

Addressing the participants, ADDC said that the Tribal Youth Sports Festival is a step towards providing opportunity to the tribal students to explore new horizons, expand their knowledge and skills. He added that this will open new doors in the life of tribal youth as it will acquaint them with the diverse culture of this place and help them know different aspects of life and its associated customs and rituals.

He underlined that this festival will be vital for the personality development of the Tribal Youth as their understanding of life, legitimate career aspirations and other training needs for having employable skills can be enhanced.

The ADDC advised participants to take part in such activities as it will make them part of mainstream developmental processes besides enabling them to learn about different cultures and lifestyles, and gain valuable insights into education and career opportunities available to them.

The programme was organized by District Administration in collaboration with Department of Youth Services and Sports Pulwama with an aim of empowering tribal students by providing them with exposure to diverse cultures, education, and skills training across the district.

On the occasion, colourful cultural performances were presented to highlight the unique tribal culture and customs of their respective areas.

Later, ADDC flagged-off a rally in view of World Environment Day to educate the public regarding the protection of the environment, and a plantation drive was also carried out.

Besides, DDC Member Mansha Jan; Chief Education Officer, District Sports Officer, and a large number of locals participated in the festival.
