Srinagar, Apr 08 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his ongoing three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, chaired a high-level Unified Headquarters meeting at the Raj Bhawan on Tuesday, emphasizing the complete eradication of terrorism from the region and ensuring zero infiltration across the border.
The meeting, held at the apex security forum of the union territory, saw the presence of top military, intelligence, and administrative officials, including Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, and senior officers from the Northern Command, BSF, CRPF, and J&K Police.
Officials confirmed that the Home Minister reviewed the overall security situation, law and order, and operational readiness of the forces, particularly in the context of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and peak tourism season. He stressed the need for total synergy among security forces to ensure a zero-infiltration regime and maintain an uncompromising stance against terrorism, especially in the Jammu division.
Sources revealed that Shah expressed satisfaction over the operational efficiency of the forces and urged them to sustain momentum to eliminate the last traces of terrorism in the Union Territory.
Earlier in the day, Shah reviewed key developmental projects in a separate high-level meeting attended by L-G Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, and several senior bureaucrats. He also held a one-on-one meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
In a significant political development, Shah shared via X (formerly Twitter) that three more organizations have exited the separatist Hurriyat Conference, pledging allegiance to the Indian Constitution—highlighting what he called a growing endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Naya Kashmir” vision, where peace and progress replace violence and division.
Paying tribute to fallen heroes, the Home Minister visited the family of martyred J&K Police Dy SP Humayun Bhat in Srinagar. Accompanied by L-G Sinha and CM Abdullah, Shah offered condolences and spent time with the bereaved family, including Humayun’s father, retired IGP Ghulam Hassan Bhat, and his young widow and child. The officer was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his gallantry in action during a terrorist encounter in 2023.
In Jammu, Shah also met the families of four martyred police officers from Kathua and handed over compassionate appointment orders to their next of kin. He reiterated that although terrorism has been significantly curtailed, efforts will continue until it is entirely rooted out.
While visiting the BSF outpost in Kathua, Shah lauded the BSF as the nation’s elite border force, acknowledging their relentless duty under extreme conditions. “The BSF has earned the respect of the entire nation through its unwavering dedication,” he said during his interaction with officers and jawans.
The Home Minister also held a closed-door session with BJP and RSS members at the residence of Sunil Sharma, Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly, before concluding his engagements in the region.
