Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, celebrated Friendship Day in a unique way by personally making special deliveries. Using X (formerly Twitter), Goyal revealed his plan to deliver meals and friendship bracelets to Zomato’s delivery partners, restaurant collaborators, and customers.
In a message, the food-tech giant’s founder stated, “I’m off to distribute food and friendship bands to our delivery partners, restaurant associates, and customers. This is turning out to be the best Sunday ever!!” He even shared images of himself on a Royal Enfield motorbike, holding a collection of friendship bands inscribed with “best food friends forever.”
Users reacted with enthusiasm and admiration for Goyal’s gesture. One user humorously commented, “Today, Zomato orders over Swiggy, as people hope to meet the CEO.” Another expressed a desire to have Goyal as their delivery partner, asking if he would be delivering in Chandigarh. Someone else thanked Zomato for being their “food friend” in the absence of domestic assistance.
This wasn’t the first time Goyal took on the role of a Zomato delivery person. On New Year’s Eve, he surprised users by personally delivering a few orders, including one to the Zomato office itself. In total, he completed four deliveries. Interestingly, his X bio playfully reads, “Delivery boy at Zomato.”
Zomato achieved a significant milestone recently, posting its first-ever profit since its establishment in 2008. On August 3rd, the company reported a net profit of ₹2 crore for the first quarter of the current financial year. Responding to a lighthearted comment from a user on X, suggesting Goyal could have borrowed ₹2 crore from them instead of going door-to-door for deliveries, the CEO humorously remarked, “Tweet of the day.”
In a recent development, Zomato introduced a trial fee of ₹2 per order, regardless of the order’s value. The app explained that this nominal fee assists in covering operational costs and maintaining Zomato’s services.
