YouTube Introduces AI-Powered Dubbing Feature for Video Creators, Expanding Language Options

If you’re a video creator who publishes content on YouTube, there’s exciting news for you. The popular video streaming platform has recently introduced a new feature that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate dubbing your videos in different languages.

YouTube announced its decision to incorporate the team from Aloud, an AI-powered dubbing service developed by Google’s Area 120 incubator, as reported by The Verge.

According to Aloud’s website, this tool transcribes your video and provides a transcription for your review and editing. It then translates and generates the dub. Amjad Hanif from YouTube stated that the platform is currently testing this tool with numerous content creators. Currently, Aloud supports a limited number of languages, but more will be added in the future, according to Aloud spokesperson Jessica Gibby.

Aloud could prove to be a valuable resource for content creators who wish to include multi-language dubs in their videos. Furthermore, YouTube is reportedly working on enhancing the translated audio-tracks to resemble the creator’s voice more closely, incorporating additional expressions and lip sync, as mentioned by Hanif. These features are scheduled to be released in 2024.

In a related development, Google recently combined DeepMind and Google Brain, and shared insights into how their visual language model, Flamingo, is being utilized to generate descriptions for YouTube shorts.
