The MV Ganga Vilas, which is the world’s longest river cruise, is set to complete its journey in Dibrugarh, Assam on Tuesday. The luxury cruise, with a capacity to accommodate 36 passengers, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13 in Varanasi.
“MV Ganga Vilas will culminate its journey on February 28 in Dibrugarh. A welcome ceremony will be organised by the Inland Waterways Authority of India, under the aegis of ministry of ports, shipping and waterways…in Dibrugarh on the same day,” Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) said in a statement.
The MV Ganga Vilas was designed to traverse 3,200 km, travelling through 27 river systems across five Indian states and Bangladesh. Currently carrying 32 tourists from Switzerland, the cruise is expected to reach its final destination in Dibrugarh, Assam on Tuesday. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal praised the MV Ganga Vilas, stating that it has placed India and Bangladesh on the world’s river cruise map, establishing a new opportunity for tourism and freight transportation in the Indian subcontinent.
