World Theatre Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Lotsava Hall

Culture Academy on 27th March Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Language, Leh in collaboration with Ladakh Theatre Organisation celebrated the event.
CEC, Adv. Tashi Gyalson was the Chief Guest and Member of Parliament was the Jamyang Tsering Namgial Guest of honour on the occasion.

The event started with the lighting up of the butter lamp.

CEC Tashi Gyalson congratulated and appreciated the endeavours of LTO (Ladakh Theatre Organisation, Leh) for a very powerful performance on World Theatre Day and said that it has tried to spread awareness pertaining to social issues of Society. CEC emphasises the importance of theatre medium, its significance and its audience. He further added due to unplanned urbanisation and migration poses a serious threat to our culture and identity. He appreciated President LTO for his contribution in preserving our culture.

Taking into consideration the importance of having a sustainable economy for the theatre community CEC Gyalson stated that through innovative ideas theatre can amalgamate with the Tourism Industry so that passion and sustainable income will go hand in hand. He informed that Hill Council will provide assistance to make Ladakh a theatre destination.

On the occasion, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgial stated that World Theatre Day is marked annually on 27th March by theatre communities worldwide. It celebrates the power of theatre as an indispensable bridge-builder for mutual understanding, promotes and protects cultural diversity and identity. He spoke on the History and importance of Bhoti Language and Theatre, which is part of the 10 sciences of knowledge, theatre role in ones confidence building etc. He appreciated cultural activist for their efforts in conserving and protecting our rich art and heritage and also reviving the cultural traditions of our community.

President of LTO Mipham Otsal expressed gratitude and stresses the importance of the Theatre in developing the culture and the tradition of Ladakh. The need of an encouragement and support in inculcating the character among the youth to opt theatre in their curriculum and how theatre exposes young people to new vocabulary and ways of communication through different forms of art.

Focusing on the importance of moral education, he further added that the parents and teachers, should cultivate good moral values in children from the beginning, stressing the need of a separate subject on moral education.
Earlier, welcome speech was given by SOCA, LAACL, Lhundup Dorje while speaking about the importance of the day and thanked dignitaries and guests for gracing the event.

During the event, artists of LTO performed a play on aGyurja.

Lastly, Vote of thanks was given by RA, LAACL, Leh Tundup Dorje.

Chairman, Tsering Angchuk; , Executive Councillor for Rural, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; Executive Councillor for Minority Affairs, Ghulam Mehdi; Councillor Chushul, Konchok Stanzin; Councillor Chuchot, Mirza Hussain; Councillor Igoo, Sonam Thardos; Nominated Councillor, Mumtaz Hussain; Renowned artist, School representatives, Press Club President and concerned officers/ officials.
