Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: India aim to seal semi-final spot after hiccup against England

India and Ireland are set to face each other in a Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Group B match on Monday, February 19 at Boland Park in Paarl.

The equation is pretty straightforward for India. A win in their next game will take them through to the semis along with England. In that case, West Indies and Pakistan would be knocked out of the competition. If India lose, Pakistan and West Indies have a realistic chance of advancing. A loss could also knock the Women in Blue out of the competition provided their net run rate (+0.205) dips below that of West Indies (-0.601).

West Indies’ fate isn’t in their own hands anymore, although they beat Pakistan on Sunday by three runs and are placed third.

If Ireland beat India, Pakistan only need an outright win against Heather Knight’s England to go through. Pakistan currently have a better net run rate (+0.981) compared to India.

As far as Ireland are concerned, they will be playing for pride against India. They got ever so close to victory against West Indies, but Matthews’ knock under pressure denied them victory.
