Woman nabbed for ‘torturing’ domestic help in Gurugram
Three days after registration of an FIR, the main accused in brutal torture of a minor maid in Gurugram was arrested yesterday. The accused woman, Shashi Sharma, was later released on a bail, a National media agency reported.
Meanwhile, an ossification test conducted on the victim revealed that she is 17 years of age. After the test, the victim was discharged from the civil hospital and sent to her home. A senior police officer said the victim’s medical condition was stable.
“For the medical opinion, a board of doctors has been formed. I hope to get the final opinion by tomorrow (Thursday). After getting the medical opinion, further action will be taken against the accused. Our team questioned the accused, Shashi Sharma, for hours today. She was let off on a bail as she joined the investigation,” said DCP Virender Vij.
The police, however, did not reveal anything about Sharma’s statement as the probe is on. Earlier, the Sharma family had denied allegations of torture. On a complaint of the victim’s mother, the FIR was registered against the family at Women Police Station in Sector 51, Gurugram on Saturday.
The victim reiterated she did everything to keep her employers happy, but they started behaving like monsters after two months of her employment. They allegedly stopped her salary and started torturing her. She was also hit with hammers and they would let their dog loose on her. Two men even “sexually assaulted” her.
The victim’s father said he had sent his daughter to work for accused Shashi Sharma in June to help fight poverty.
