In a distressing incident on Wednesday, January 31, a woman became the target of a burglary at the J&K bank ATM situated in Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu. The victim, who had approached a random individual for assistance with her ATM usage was allegedly swindled of ₹11,500 during the encounter.
Recounting the incident, the victim shared, “I sought help from a stranger at the ATM, as I was unfamiliar with using an ATM card. To my dismay, he not only assisted me but also managed to burgle ₹11,500 from my account. Unaware of the theft, he exchanged my ATM card with his, handed it back to me, and swiftly disappeared from the scene. It was only later, upon noticing that the name on the card didn’t match mine, that I realised I had been duped.”
The victim’s husband, employed at Jammu Municipal Corporation had intended to utilise the funds for their children’s educational fees.
An FIR has been lodged at the nearest police station, and authorities are currently awaiting further details as the investigation progresses.
