Chillai kalan, the 40 day long harsh winter period has finally come to an end on 30th of January. With the end of Chillai kalan begins the Chillai Kurd period which is a 20 day long period. This Chillai khurd, MeT predicts more rains and snow across J&K, while the mercury is taking a dip.

J&K and Ladakh are gearing up for a spell of light to moderate snowfall in the next 24 hours, senior Meteorologist Sonam Lotus said Tuesday.

Lotus said that the higher reaches of J&K and Ladakh would very likely receive heavy spells of snowfall.

“Snowfall very likely to commence at many places of Ladakh Jammu&Kashmir from evening onwards reaching Peak tonight & tomorrow. Moderate to Heavy Snowfall will occur over higher reaches of Ladakh & Very Heavy over higher reaches of Kashmir & Jammu,” Lotus posted on X.

Parts of Kashmir, especially higher reaches, have witnessed light to moderate precipitation in the last four days.
