Wipro to Invest $1 Billion in AI, Accelerating Innovation and Training Initiatives

Indian IT services provider Wipro Ltd has announced its intention to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) within the next three years. According to an exchange filing, the investments will primarily target the expansion of AI, big data, and analytics solutions, as well as the development of new research and development platforms.

This announcement follows a similar move by rival company Tata Consultancy Services, which revealed plans to train 25,000 engineers to obtain certification in Microsoft’s Azure Open AI. The global business landscape has witnessed increased investment in AI across various sectors, including banking and technology, following the remarkable success of ChatGPT, a generative AI chatbot developed by Microsoft-backed OpenAI in late 2022.

Wipro has also introduced its AI-first innovation ecosystem called Wipro ai360 and committed to training its approximately 250,000 employees in AI over the next year. CEO Thierry Delaporte believes that the emergence of generative AI will bring about significant transformative changes in all industries.
