Will seek capital punishment for repeated offenders in cases lodged under NDPS Act: DGP RR Swain

Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain Monday said that the police will take toughest action against drug peddlers in advance stages and seek capital punishment for repeated offenders in cases lodged under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

“The narcotics has emerged a grave challenge for police and other security agencies. During investigations it has proved that narcotics and terrorism are inter-connected to each other as terror coordinators sitting across the border are its real suppliers,” DGP told reporters in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.

He said the police and other law enforcement agencies have categorized the elements involved in substance trade, and soon toughest action will be initiated against kingpins of drug peddling. “There are two groups – one who is involved in its consumption and peddling, while the other one is the supplier who is making assets out of its income. The process of identifying such elements is underway in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir, and tough action will be initiated soon,” DGP said.

He added the police is working on a strategy that elements involved in drug peddling twice or thrice should be taken to task sternly. “We want two to three drug peddlers should be given death sentence through proper competent courts. This will radiate a strong message that such anti-social activities are absolutely intolerable for government. Also police will seek capital punishment for repeated offenders in cases lodged under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.” DGP held.
