Residents of Rajwar in north Kashmir’s Handwara can now breathe a sigh of relief as the Department of Wildlife has successfully trapped a wild bear in Budshungi that had been allegedly causing damage to graves in the area and causing distress to the residents.

The officials of the Wildlife Department told Rising Kashmir that, after numerous attempts, they were able to capture the bear. Not wanting to take any chances, however, the department extended their efforts to ensure that the animal’s babies were also safely trapped.

The locals celebrated the news of the trapping of the wild bear with joy, as it meant far fewer worries for them. The Department of Wildlife also reported that the animal was not injured in the process and will be soon released back into its natural habitat.

Reports had previously surfaced from the Behnipora and Sirajpora villages that wild animals were damaging graves in the locality, following which the administration took action and directed the Wildlife Department to catch the animal as soon as possible.

The people in the area have expressed hope that the babies of the wild bear will be captured soon.
