According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks news and updates related to WhatsApp, the Meta-owned platform is working on an ability that will allow users to identify a ‘kept message’ in the chat.

To explain how the feature will work, WABetaInfo shared this screenshot:

As seen above, to identify a ‘kept message’ in WhatsApp, users can look for a bookmark icon (follow white arrow) that appears in the message bubble of disappearing messages. This icon is an indicator that the disappearing message has been ‘kept’ and will not disappear from the chat, even if the disappearing message feature is turned on.

It is, however, not known when this ability will be made available to users.

What is a ‘kept message’?

As previously reported by WABetaInfo, this is another feature that is being developed by WhatsApp. It is a temporarily saved disappearing message; this means it will not be automatically deleted from the chat and will be visible to everyone in the conversation. However, users can ‘un-keep’ it at any time, and delete it forever.

Disappearing messages feature

According to WhatsApp, it is an optional feature users can enable for additional privacy. When activated, users can set messages to disappear 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days after the time these are sent.
