WhatsApp chat transfer work: Meta has been busy lately, adding new features to WhatsApp left and right. Some of the latest ones include using the same WhatsApp account on four devices at once, and saving disappearing messages for later. Now, the instant messaging app is said to be working on another feature that will make it easier for Android users to switch chats between devices and also remove its dependency on Google. WhatsApp currently allows its Android users to backup their chats and media to Google Drive so that they can retrieve them on a new device when required. However, this makes Android users dependent on Google Drive as WhatsApp does not have any dedicated feature for the same. But not anymore. Wabetainfo, a site that tracks all the latest developments across WhatsApp, has previously reported that WhatsApp is developing a new feature for Android users. Now the same site reports that WhatsApp has started testing this new chat transfer feature for Android users, which does not rely on Google Drive for backup.
WhatsApp chat transfer work: According to the report, WhatsApp is releasing a new chat transfer feature for some beta testers with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.9.19 update available on the Google Play Store. Once available, the chat transfer feature within WhatsApp Settings > Chats will allow users to move their chat history to a new Android device. To start the migration process, users will have to scan the QR code and follow the instructions to retrieve all their chat history and data, including media. The feature will also offer users a fast and easy migration experience as it eliminates the need for manual backup of the chat history to Google Drive, which can take a long time depending on the size of the chat history. By scanning the QR code, users will be easily able to transfer their chat history from their old Android device to a new Android device without going through the backup and restore process as the migration is automatic.
Notably, the new feature is currently under testing and only select beta testers can test it. However, WhatsApp will soon release the feature for all Android devices in future updates of the app.
In the meantime, WhatsApp is also sad to be working on another feature for Android users who use the instant messaging app on Tablets. Wabetainfo in its other reports reveals that the Meta-owned WhatsApp is testing a new “side-by-side” feature for some Android tablet users.
