WhatsApp Introduces New Button for Enhanced User Experience; Channels Feature Expands Globally

WhatsApp, the messaging platform, is unveiling a fresh button on its interface, currently accessible to a limited user group. According to WABetaInfo, some users may gain access to this feature by installing the previous beta version of the app.

This new button is regarded as an effort by the Meta-owned platform to elevate user satisfaction. Some individuals who have installed the beta version of WhatsApp may also be able to utilize this new feature.

WhatsApp may experiment with various contemporary styles for the app buttons, tailoring them to specific user groups.

This update to the button comes shortly after WhatsApp introduced Channels, a one-way tool for sharing updates with followers. The company stated that users in over 150 countries, including India, will have access to Channels.

On WhatsApp, channels operate separately from chats, and followers cannot see each other.

Meta announced that users will receive suggestions for WhatsApp Channels based on their location and popularity. They will also have the ability to use emojis to react to messages within a channel, much like in regular WhatsApp chats.

WhatsApp Channels will be accessible worldwide in the coming weeks and months. Anyone with a WhatsApp account will have the capability to establish a channel on the platform.

This broader release comes after WhatsApp Channels was launched in Colombia and Singapore in June. Concurrently, the Broadcast Channels feature on Instagram was made globally available.

In June, WhatsApp took action against 72.28 lakh Indian accounts. In their India report released on September 1, WhatsApp disclosed that out of these, 3,108,000 accounts were proactively banned, before any user reports.

The report from WhatsApp stated, “In addition to responding to and actioning on user complaints through the grievance channel, WhatsApp also deploys tools and resources to prevent harmful behaviour on the platform. We are particularly focused on prevention because we believe it is much better to stop harmful activity from happening in the first place than to detect it after harm has occurred.”
