WhatsApp, owned by Meta Platforms, has introduced a new feature in India, allowing users to make purchases directly within the app using either cards or Unified Payments Interface (UPI). This functionality was announced at Meta’s Conversations conference in Mumbai by CEO Mark Zuckerberg via a video call. Following successful launches in Brazil and Singapore, this service is now available in India.

Additionally, WhatsApp unveiled two more features: Flows and Meta Verified. With Flows, businesses can offer services like seat selection, meal ordering, or appointment booking without having to leave the chat. In the upcoming weeks, companies using WhatsApp Business will be able to utilize this feature.

Meta Verified will provide a ‘verified badge,’ enhanced account support, and protection against impersonation to companies. It will also offer premium features for those interested in registering. Meta will initiate testing for Meta Verified and subsequently roll it out for WhatsApp Business.
