WhatsApp is actively developing new features and updating existing ones to strengthen user privacy. In line with this commitment, WhatsApp is now reportedly developing a new privacy feature that will give users more control over their messages.
A recent update rolled out via the Google Play Beta Programme hints at a new option for users to disable link previews within chats.
According to sources, a website known for uncovering upcoming WhatsApp updates, WhatsApp is working on a new update that will allow users to disable link previews in chats. This feature is currently under development in the Android beta version (2.24.7.12) and is expected to roll out to all users in a future update.
Right now, when a user shares a link in a WhatsApp chat, the app automatically fetches a preview of the webpage. This preview typically includes the title, a brief description, and sometimes even a thumbnail image.
While convenient, link previews can sometimes expose information before the recipient even clicks on the link. For instance, a clickbait headline or a misleading snippet could entice someone to click without fully understanding the content.
