Jammu, April 9: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Waheed ur Rehman Para on Wednesday raised a significant concern in the Assembly regarding the issuance of domicile certificates in the Union Territory.
Para revealed that a total of 35,12,184 domicile certificates have been issued in the last two years, out of which 83,742 were issued to non-locals. He questioned the criteria and verification process behind the issuance of these certificates, specifically raising concerns about the identity and background of those categorized as non-locals.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have a right to know who these 83,742 individuals are, and on what grounds they were granted domicile status,” Para stated on the Assembly floor, urging the government to maintain transparency in the process.
The government has yet to issue an official response regarding the matter. However, the issue has sparked debate within political circles, with opposition parties calling for clarity and a comprehensive review of the domicile issuance policy.
