Vinesh Phogat Disqualified from Olympic Wrestling Final for Being Overweight
In a major setback for India’s Olympic hopes, Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the women’s 50kg wrestling final at the Paris Olympics. The 29-year-old wrestler was found 100 grams overweight during the weigh-in on the day of the final, rendering her ineligible to compete.
Despite her stunning performance, which included defeating World No. 1 Yui Susaki and advancing through the quarter-finals and semi-finals, Phogat will not win any medal at the Paris Olympics if the disqualification is upheld.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed the disqualification in an official statement and urged all stakeholders to respect Vinesh Phogat’s privacy during this difficult time.
