Katra, Jammu & Kashmir | June 10, 2025 — The launch of the first-ever direct train to the Kashmir Valley has been hailed as a major step forward for Jammu & Kashmir’s connectivity and development. Among the dignitaries onboard the inaugural journey was J&K Cabinet Minister for Youth and Sports, Satish Sharma, who called it a “historic day” for the region.
Speaking to reporters while travelling on the Vande Bharat train, the minister said, “This was a long-pending demand of the people. Today, Kashmir has finally been connected to the rest of the country by rail, and that’s a dream come true for many.” Kashmir news by gulistan news tv
A Project Years in the Making
The minister highlighted how this railway project had been under development for decades. From early planning stages to final execution, it has involved many governments and leaders. He said that the current Chief Minister had seen the project evolve from a dream during his childhood to reality during his tenure in office. Kashmir news by gulistan news tv
“The Chief Minister himself was part of the team when the foundation was laid, and again when the project was completed. This is truly a full-circle moment,” Sharma noted.
Wider Benefits for the Region
Sharma outlined how the train will make a tangible difference in the lives of people from all walks of life. Tourists will now find it easier to visit the valley; pilgrims will be able to travel more comfortably; patients in need of urgent care can reach hospitals without relying on expensive flights; and local traders will benefit from more accessible markets. “Whether it is tourism, healthcare, or trade — this train serves everyone,” he added.
Affordable Travel, More Options
He pointed out that until now, most people travelling to Kashmir had no choice but to take expensive flights. With the introduction of the Vande Bharat train, residents and visitors now have a safer and more affordable alternative.
“This move breaks the monopoly of air travel and gives people more freedom in how they choose to travel,” the minister said.
Symbol of Unity
Calling it a “step toward reducing emotional distance,” Sharma said the train would also help bridge the gap between Kashmir and the rest of the country — not just physically, but emotionally and socially as well.
“It’s more than just a train — it’s a lifeline that brings people closer, strengthens relationships, and fosters national integration.”
The new railway line is expected to have a long-lasting impact on the region’s economic growth, mobility, and connectivity. As the first train made its way through the valley, many called it a symbol of new beginnings for Jammu & Kashmir.
