A bus carrying 35 passengers met a tragic accident near Gangani on the Gangotri national highway in Uttarakhand, resulting in seven fatalities and injuries to 27 others. The incident occurred on Sunday around 4pm as the bus was en route from Gangotri to Uttarkashi. The Uttarkashi district disaster management officer, Devendra Patwal, confirmed the casualties and mentioned ongoing efforts to rescue one passenger still trapped in the bus. The rescue operation involves State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and other teams. The cause of the accident remains unknown. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences for the victims and wished a swift recovery for the injured. He instructed district authorities to manage relief and rescue operations. The Uttarkashi district magistrate and superintendent of police are supervising the rescue efforts. Rescue teams have employed nine ambulances and have a helicopter on standby for transferring injured individuals if necessary. Tragically, the state has experienced a series of road accidents since June 15, resulting in significant casualties.
