UPSC chairperson Manoj Soni resigns five years before end of term

Manoj Soni, the chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has resigned from his position nearly five years before his term was set to end in 2029. The reason given for his resignation is “personal reasons.” According to sources, his decision to resign is not linked to the recent controversy involving probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, who was accused of submitting fraudulent disability and caste certificates.

Manoj Soni became a member of the UPSC in 2017 and assumed the role of chairperson on May 16, 2023. The UPSC is a key constitutional body responsible for conducting the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which recruits candidates for prestigious government positions, including IAS, IPS, and IFS.
