Upper reaches of Kashmir valley including Gulmarg received fresh snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains on Thursday, officials said.

The Meteorological Department office said that Srinagar the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir received 2.9mm of rainfall, Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway 3.9mm, Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam 9.3mm, Kupwara 4.9mm, Kokernag 1.8mm and ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir 4.4mm of rain fall and 2.5 Cms of snowfall during the past 24 hours till 0830hours today.

Currently the weather is overcast at most of the places while it was raining at a few places in Jammu and Kashmir, the MeT office said, adding that there will be no large change in the weather system and the sky will remain partly to generally cloudy till March 5 and thereafter mainly clear till March 10.

An independent meteorologist Faizan Arif told Uni that the weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be mostly cloudy today with a possibility of rain showers at some places.

He said the intensity of the rain showers will be light to moderate. In higher reaches, light to moderate snowfall is also possible.

The day temperatures will stay around normal, with no significant rise or drop expected. The weather conditions are expected to remain stable for the day, with no major events expected, he added.
