According to Azmeh Dawood, the aunt of Suleman Dawood, the 19-year-old university student who joined his father on the ill-fated Titan expedition to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, Suleman initially had reservations about going on the trip. Azmeh disclosed in an interview that her nephew was afraid and hesitant to embark on the journey. However, driven by his desire to please his passionate father and coinciding with Father’s Day weekend, Suleman ultimately decided to board OceanGate’s submersible. Unfortunately, the Titan submarine and all five passengers on board are now presumed to have died.
Azmeh Dawood, speaking from her residence in Amsterdam, shared the devastating news that OceanGate has confirmed the presumed deaths of the passengers. Her voice conveyed anguish and disbelief as she described her nephew’s apprehension and her own emotional struggle.
The past four days have been agonizing for Azmeh as she anxiously followed news reports about the search for the Titan, desperately hoping for a positive outcome. The confirmation of the presumed deaths has left her feeling trapped in a surreal nightmare, overwhelmed with grief and struggling to cope.
Shahzada and Azmeh Dawood come from one of Pakistan’s prominent corporate families and are heirs to the renowned Dawood Hercules Corp., which has interests in various industries. While Azmeh had grown apart from Shahzada in recent years due to their differing opinions on her medicinal cannabis use for her multiple sclerosis, she maintained a close relationship with Suleman, cherishing his kind-hearted nature.
The tragic news of both Shahzada and Suleman’s presumed deaths has reminded Azmeh of the deep love she had for her younger brother. Overwhelmed by emotions, she tearfully reminisced about holding him as a baby, grieving the loss of her baby brother and nephew.
In a statement, the parents of Azmeh and Shahzada expressed gratitude for the support and prayers they have received during this unimaginable loss. They acknowledged the tireless efforts of the search teams and requested continued prayers for the departed souls and their grieving family.
