United Airlines flight aborted after engine catches fire at Chicago airport

A United Airlines flight aborted takeoff at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Monday afternoon. One of its engines caught fire, sending thick plumes of smoke from one of the wings. The incident occurred on United Flight 2091, an Airbus A320. The flight was scheduled to fly to Seattle.

The aircraft was on the taxiway preparing for takeoff when the engine burst into flames. Passengers reported hearing a loud bang followed by a series of popping noises. Smoke quickly filled the cabin. Crew members acted swiftly, instructing passengers to remain calm and stay seated.

The pilot immediately halted the aircraft. Emergency crews arrived at the scene within minutes. Firefighters doused the flames while airport personnel evacuated the passengers. No injuries were reported.

United Airlines issued a statement acknowledging the incident. The airline commended the crew for their quick response. “Safety is our top priority,” the statement read. “We are cooperating with the authorities to investigate the cause of the fire.”

Passengers praised the crew’s professionalism. “They were very calm and handled everything perfectly,” said one passenger. Another described the incident as “terrifying” but expressed relief that no one was hurt.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. Initial reports suggest a mechanical failure in the engine.
