On Monday night, three unidentified men on a motorcycle fired shots at a shop in Brahmpuri near New Usmanpur in northeast Delhi. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, according to the police.
DCP Joy Tirkey, in charge of the northeast district, reported that at approximately 10 p.m., the police control room received information about the shooting at a shop that sold garments and shoes in Brahmpuri. Upon arrival, the police were informed that at around 9:30 p.m., three individuals arrived on a motorcycle. One of them discharged three shots – two targeted at the shop’s exterior glass and one fired into the air. Subsequently, they fled on their motorcycle.
“The shop was open, but fortunately, nobody sustained any injuries from the gunfire. We are currently questioning the shop owner and employees. CCTV footage from the vicinity of the incident is being reviewed to identify the perpetrators. The motive behind the incident is under investigation,” Tirkey added.
Authorities have filed a case under sections 336 and 24 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to acts endangering the lives or personal safety of others with common intention, as well as sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at New Usmanpur police station.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against unknown individuals, and the reason behind the shooting remains unclear, police stated. Investigators are exploring potential motives including personal vendettas, business rivalries, and extortion attempts. Further inquiries into the case are ongoing.
